Treatment and Rehabilitation

After Breast Cancer, rehabilitation is necessary to help relieve pain, mobilize scar tissue and restore the loss of muscular function due to reconstruction.  Exercise can also help to restore energy levels.

Nearly half of all women experience pain or physical limitations after breast cancer surgery, a condition known as post-mastectomy reconstruction syndrome, or PMRS. However, many women find relief with treatments that include physiotherapy.

Even women with a lumpectomy will benefit from physiotherapy as they could have cording, edema & scarring that can limit movement and contribute to shoulder, arm, neck and/or back pain.

The mainstay of treatment is a highly specialized physiotherapy that reeducates the affected muscles and nerves, improves posture and body awareness, stretches the chest wall muscles, strengthens other muscles, and restores joint and soft tissue mobility.
